Quilling: how to use curling coach – Quilled Easter basket and eggs

FunLab is in the middle of launching its new product line: CRAFTS FOR BIG KIDS. One new category that we have introduced is QUILLING. I have always admired beautiful quilling posts and blogs and thought to myself, “one day I will figure quilling out”. That day has arrived. The other evening I opened our starter kit and dedicated myself to figuring out the art of quilling. My first discovery is that what I originally thought was a magnifying glass instead was a mysterious CURLING COACH. After a quick look online I discovered that it is used to make tight coils. I also found a spetacular post at Quilling with Alli. Here is the challenge: can a COMPLETE BEGINNER like me learn how to use the curling coach and create something that adorable? Here is how I did it.

You will need:
Quilling starting kit
1/4 inch quilling paper (spring colors)
1/8 inch quilling paper (spring colors)
Craft glue

Let’s get started:
Step 1: Take the quilling tool and insert into the hole of the curling coach.

Step 2: Insert one end of quilling paper into slit of quilling tool.

Step 3: Turn quilling toil so that the paper creates a tight coil. Keep going until you reach the end of the paper. Insert another strip of paper overlapping slightly and keep turning.

Step 4: Continue Step 3 until the coil has reached the desired size. Close the coil with a dab of glue.

Step 5: Create coils of different sizes.

Step 6: Gently push out the center of the coil to form a dome or cup shape.

Step 7: Put a drop of glue on the inside of the cup and use your finger to coat.

Step 8: Depending on the size of the coil, your resulting cup will be larger or smaller.

Step 9: Braid together three strips of 1/8 inch quilling paper to form the handle.

Step 10: Glue braided handle onto the basket.

Step 11: Make eggs by gluing together smaller cups.

Your baskets and eggs are ready. Our challenge was a sucess! These baskets are actually EASY. If you want to add some green paper grass cut thin strips of tissue paper.
