Homemade gift for Mother’s Day!

Can you believe it is time to look for ideas for a homemade gift for Mother’s Day? This year has been so strange – it seems impossible that a year has flown by. During the pandemic, I started hording all sorts of strange things – one of which is glass jars with their tops. While cleaning out one of my overloaded cabinets I realized that the jars had to go. I actually put them in the recycling bin but then….I decided it was time to get creating with a recycled homemade gift for Mother’s Day. We turned these simple glass jars into cute little gifts for our favorite person – MOM!

The first thing you need to do is to “paint” the glass jar with bright colours of tissue paper. I didn’t take any pictures of this step because we made a huge mess. If you have any doubts about how to do it take a look at this post. In the original post, we were covering plastic but the technique works perfectly on glass.

Then comes the fun part. Cover the lid with FIMO. We looked on line for some ideas and discovered the world of FIMO. However, the kids ended up doing their own thing and look how cute the lids came out. If you are not sure how to bake the FIMO covered lid take a look at our cooking instructions here. The kids painted their lids with a FIMO gloss which was cute but made taking pictures tricky as they are quite shiny!

A couple of years ago I did a product review on this great candle making kit by Joustra. There is so much wax in the kit that I had some left over. We decided that the jars would be perfect as candles. If you need wax try out their refill kit.

My kids know that I love sweets so one of the jars ended up being used as a candy jar filled with sweet little candy gummy bears. Thank goodness I ran the jars through the dishwasher before starting the project – that way it was nice and clean on the inside.

If you try this idea out at home, send us this pictures! We would love to see what you are up to.

Keep crafting
