Do you have a little clown in your life? We decided to make this fun and colorful jester hat for our little clown to wear for Carnevale. The best part is that it is really easy and fast to put together. Try it out at home and let us know how it works!
FunLab Mom Hint: We used craft foam but either card stock or felt could be used instead. In order to avoid long drying times, we used a hot glue gun to assemble the hat. Make sure you use a low temperature gun so that the craft foam does not melt and take time to explain to your little helpers the risks of touching the glue and the tip of the gun. If you do not have a hot glue gun you can always use foam glue but it takes a while to dry.
You will need:
Hot glue gun | Foam Markers | Glitter Glue |
Craft foam | Small bells | Jester Template |
Step 1: Cut out two 7,5x30cm strips of blue craft foam. This is the band of the hat. Measure your little one’s head to see how big around it is. We made a band that was 57cm long (a little too big for a 6 year old). Glue the two pieces together overlapping them a little bit. Trim the band to the correct length making sure to leave enough room to be able to glue the band into a circle.
Step 2: We used the template provide above to cut out 7 triangles. We used yellow, green, red and orange craft foam.
Step 3: Line up the triangles along the upper edge of the blue head band. In order to make the triangle tips straight, we marked the band 1,5cm down from the edge and lined up the bottom of the triangle with this line. We left around 1cm at of the two ends. Glue triangles in place.
Step 4: Once the glue cooled off, we turned the hat over and started to decorate the triagles using foamie markers and glitter glue to create all different types of geometric shapes. Remember that the foamie markers are acrylic and will stain fabric!
Step 5: Once the decorations have dried, glue the two ends of the blue band together.
Step 6: Glue little bells on the end of each of the triangle points.
PUT IT ON YOUR LITTLE ONE’S HEAD AND ENJOY HIS SMILE!
