December is here and it is time to start to plan for Christmas. With all the travel limitations in place for the COVID crisis, Christmas is going to be very different this year. How are you and your family dealing with changes? I decided to start my kids crafting to decorate the house for the holidays. With all the time that we have to spend at home, I decided that the COVID Christmas was going to be remembered as the CRAFTING Christmas. Our first adventure into the Christmas crafting adventure are Decoupage Christmas tree decorations. With all my years of crafting, I had never tried this technique to create decoupage decorations.
I have to admit that I stumbled across the material in a random way. I was a Tiger looking for ideas for our advent calendars when I found plastic hearts and stars that opened in the middle into two pieces. After five minutes on internet, I had discovered how to use them and got everything I needed for this project in less than 5 minutes and in one store! All you need are some paper napkins, glue, different ribbons, a paint brush and thin tape.
First step was to cover the inside of the plastic shapes with small pieces of the paper napkin and a nice layer of glue. Remember that the glue will be transparent when dry.
Let the two sides dry and them put together. Cover the seam with thin glitter tape.
Add a coloured string to the decoration.
Make a small bow out of ribbon to add to your decoupage decoration.
We made two different shapes of decoupage Christmas decorations: stars and hearts.
Try it out and send us your pictures! If you are doing any crafting during this period of being shut in the house send us your pictures!
keep crafting and stay safe
