Now that the Halloween craziness has ended it is time to enjoy autumn colours. I decided to do a DIY Autumn gift wrapping dedicated to the cute little mushrooms that you see all over the place in this season. I hadn’t done a recycling project in a while so I decided it was time to jump into my huge collection of egg cartons. I had tempera sticks left over from the last FunLab summer camp that I really wanted to try out. The art teacher ranted and raved about them so much that I was really curious.
The first step was to cut the egg carton into the long stems and tops of our mushrooms. I pressed the pieces flat because I wanted to use the egg cartoon mushrooms as tags on my DIY Autumn gift wrapping project.
It was time to color. I used the red tempera marker to color the mushroom tops and really pleased with the result! The paint covers quite well and you don’t need a brush. You still need to wait until dries but talk about easy and fun to use. I used a white uniposca that I had left over from the Haunted House post to add white dots.
Once our mushroom gift tags were ready it was time to move onto the gift itself. I used simple packing paper and red ribbon. Obviously I couldn’t leave the package undecorated! I used the white paint marker and painted my thumb and made a line of white finger prints across the bottom of the gift.
Then I use the red paint marker to add tops to my little mushrooms using the same finger print technique.
A couple of white dots with the white uniposca turned our DIY Autumn gift wrapping into a success!
Look how cute the mushrooms turned out. If you are wondering my hands cleaned up nicely! Just needed a little soap and water.
We tied on our mushroom gift tags made out of recycled egg cartons and the gift was complete! Almost too cute to open.
keep crafting
