Birthday party craft for kids: Origami pinwheel

Looking for an easy idea for birthday party crafts? Try this Origiami pinwheel. I found a lot pinwheel tutorials that involve sticking a pin through the wheel into an eraser of a pencil but I wanted to be able to make these adorable pinwheels with a group of 5 year olds and using push pins just didn’t seem like a good idea. A couple of adapatations later and here is the FunLab version of the pinwheel which is perfect for small hands.

You will need:
Origami paper
Paper fastener
Glue Sticks
Paper Straws

Let’s get started:
Step 1: We used orgiami paper to make our square because it is square and the paper is resistant. Draw two perpendicular lines from one corner to the other. Make a small mark around 2 cm out from the center of the paper.

Step 2: Cut down from corner. Stop when you reach the small mark that you made. Repeat on each corner.

Step 3: Glue everyother corner down in the middle of the wheel.

Step 4: THIS STEP NEEDS TO BE DONE BY AN ADULT. Poke a hole in the paper straw with the point of sharp scissors. Make sure that the hole is big enough for the pape fastener.

Step 5: THIS STEP NEEDS TO BE DONE BY AN ADULT. Poke a hole in the origami paper wheel that the kids have created.

Step 6: Assemble the pinwheel by passing the paper fastener through the wheel and paper straw.

Blow and see your pinwheel spin!

Have fun
