I have always been fasinated by the beautiful marbelized paper that can be found in paper stores in Italy-every piece is an unique work of art. The internet is full of tutorials on how to do it at home but I could just never imagine pulling it off sucessfully in the FunLab Workshop summer camp without a disaster let alone finding all the materials needed to do it correctly. That is until I found this wonderful post at the Artful Parent. The secret ingredients in this tutorial are shaving cream and liquid watercolors both of which are easy to find in Italy. This is a perfect project for classes or large groups of kids because it is easy and the result is almost MAGICAL! Come read how we had 10 kids do the MARBELIZED PAPER with shaving cream.
Word development: shaving cream, spread, plastic plate, drop, concentrated colors, red, blue, toothpick, swirl, paper, gentle, press, up, scrape, dry and marbelize!
You will need:
Shaving cream (foamy)
Concentrated Watercolors
Drawing paper
Let’s get started:
Step 1: Make a thin layer of shaving cream on a plastic plate.
Step 2: Drop concentrated watercolors on the shaving cream – we used red and blue.
Step 3: Use a toothpick to swirl the colors together.
Step 4: Place a white piece of paper on top of the shaving cream/color mix.
Step 5: Gently lift the paper and place shaving cream side up on a clean plastic plate.
Step 6: Use the flat edge of a piece of cardboard to scrape off the shaving cream.
Step 7: Repeat with another piece of paper on the shaving cream/color mix.
Let dry! We created an Art Book for our special marbelized paper! Even little kids were able to do it!
